Arseniy Yatseniuk, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, comments upon Ukraine´s accomplishments of the past year in the development of democracy.
On Saturday, Arseniy Yatseniuk took part in the discussion concerning current situation in Ukraine within the scope of the forum "European Strategy of Yalta. 5th Yalta Annual Meeting".
Arseniy Yatseniuk summarized the results of the year that passed since the previous summit in Yalta. According to the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the State experienced both negative and positive moments. As far as the negative moments are concerned, Ukraine faced anumber of global problems, namely: energy and food crises, global warming, etc.
As far as the positive moments are concerned, A.Yatseniuk pointed out Ukraine´s accession to the WTO, conclusion of the agreement on simplified visa regime with the European Union, launch of negotiations concerning conclusion of the treaty on free trade between Ukraine and the EU.
A.Yatseniuk underscored that "progressive democracy becomes more developed". However, he stated that political maturity of the Ukrainian society failed to be adequate.
As far as the constitutional reform is concerned, A.Yatseniuk strongly objects to the introduction of crucial amendments to the Fundamental Law. He is convinced that the Constitution "is a document of the nation, not of certain political forces".
Commenting upon the judicial reform, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that Ukraine had inadequate level of implementation of the laws, notwithstanding sufficient legislative basis.
Dwelling upon the political situation in the Ukrainian Parliament, the Chairman stated: "My goal is to preserve discussion at the Parliament, not beyond its walls".
